Bind a New Report to Data
The End-User Report Designer is designed to work with IntelliTrack data reports, meaning that a report obtains its general (dynamic) data from the external IntelliTrackdata source. This document describes how a newly created report can be bound to the IntelliTrack data source.
To bind a report to IntelliTrack data, do the following.
- Create a new report; see "Create Reports".
- In the upper left area of the report design area, click the Smart Tag.
- The Report Tasks window appears; it contains an action list.
-
In the invoked actions list, expand the Data Source drop-down list and click Add New DataSource.
-
The Report Wizard appears to guide you in creating a new dataset.
- In the first page of the invoked Report Wizard, define the dataset name, which will then appear in the Field List.
-
On the next page, the IntelliTrack database to be used is automatically selected. Do not change this selection.
-
On the next page, select (tables or views) from your database. Note that if you choose several tables (e.g., to create a master-detail report), the Report Designer creates a data relationship between them (if possible).
- Click Finish to set the data source. This will close the wizard.
- After performing the steps above, the report's Data Source and Data Adapter properties are defined.
- Also, the field list reflects the structure of the report's data source.
- This means that the report has been successfully bound to the data.
